The Cairo International Film Festival, which was set to host its 45th edition from November 15 to 24, has decided to cancel the event due to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. The decision was made by Minister of Culture Dr. Neven El-Kelany, who chose to postpone the festival indefinitely, with a new date yet to be determined.
This cancellation comes amid heightened tensions in the region and is part of a series of adjustments in the film festival calendar. The El Gouna Film Festival in Egypt also rescheduled its dates, moving from October 13 to 20 to October 27 to November 2.
Additionally, Palestinian Chilean singer Elyanna, who was scheduled to perform at the festival, expressed her decision not to participate “right now” in light of the situation. This decision to cancel the festival reflects the impact of the conflict on cultural events in the region.
