Tense Confrontation Between BJP and Opposition in Lok Sabha Regarding Women’s Quota Bill

In New Delhi, leaders from the BJP and the Opposition are clashing. This happened after Congress leader Sonia Gandhi spoke during the Lok Sabha debate on the Women’s Reservation Bill. She asked for OBC and SC quotas to be included in the bill. Mrs. Gandhi also praised former PM Rajiv Gandhi for introducing reservations in local bodies.

“The Congress wants this bill to be put into action quickly. We also want a census that looks at castes and quotas for Scheduled Castes and OBCs in the women’s reservation bill,” she said.

BJP’s Nishikant Dubey criticized this request, calling it an attempt to distract from the Women’s Bill and to take credit for it. “The Congress has never mentioned OBC reservations before. These new ideas are being brought up now for political reasons,” he said.

The Women’s Reservation Bill suggests reserving 33% of seats in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies for women. It was introduced in the Lok Sabha during the current special session of Parliament and is set to be discussed at 11:00 am today.
