The White House has expressed that the Canadian allegations concerning India’s involvement in the killing of a pro-Khalistan leader are “serious” and warrant a thorough investigation. Hardeep Singh Nijjar, the leader of the banned Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF), was killed in Surrey, British Columbia, on June 18, and India had designated Nijjar as a terrorist in 2020.

The claims made by Canada were discussed during a meeting between India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. The White House Coordinator for Strategic Communications, John Kirby, emphasized the seriousness of the allegations and urged India to actively participate in the investigation.

The US State Department’s Deputy Spokesperson, Vedant Patel, reiterated the importance of Canada’s investigation and the need to bring the perpetrators to justice. The US has urged the Indian government to cooperate in the Canadian investigation and expressed its commitment to working closely with Canadian partners on this matter.
