2 min read

The Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is known for his adventurous spirit and love for intrepid activities. His recent climb of Le Morne Brabant in Mauritius inspired the author to take on the challenge as well.

The hike up Le Morne Brabant, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, turned out to be far more challenging than expected. About half of the 7km trek involves scrambling over steep rocky sections, making it a thrilling yet nerve-wracking experience. The sheer drops on either side of the trail added to the excitement but also instilled a sense of fear.

The history of the mountain is also sobering, as it is a tribute to the escaped slaves who jumped from the peak to avoid capture.

The author noted that the Instagram photos of the summit don’t fully capture the fear and difficulty experienced during the climb. The experience was both challenging and rewarding, and the author respected Sheikh Hamdan even more for completing it.

Mauritius, often known for its beautiful beaches, also offers thrilling adventures like kitesurfing, scuba diving, and hiking in lush national parks. Le Morne Brabant, while a tough hike, provided a sense of accomplishment and a memorable experience. The author thanked Sheikh Hamdan for inspiring them to step out of their comfort zone.
