Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, who serves as the Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, COP28 President-Designate, UAE Special Envoy for Climate Change, and Special Envoy of the UAE to Japan, recently embarked on a working visit to Japan. During this visit, he presided over the inaugural ministerial meeting of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.

This visit underscores the steadfast commitment of both countries’ leadership to enhance their multifaceted relationship in pursuit of their shared interests. It also serves as a follow-up to Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s visit to the UAE in July of the previous year, taking stock of the progress achieved in various programs, projects, and initiatives within the comprehensive strategic partnership.

Discussions during the meeting encompassed the measures taken to put into action several initiatives within this comprehensive partnership. These initiatives include the “Green Global Energy Hub” project, the UAE-Japan Innovation Partnership, and the Joint Statement on Climate Action.

Furthermore, the meeting addressed preparations for the upcoming COP28 (Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) and underscored the imperative of collaborative efforts to achieve practical and achievable outcomes that benefit all nations. This reaffirms both countries’ dedication to addressing pressing global challenges, particularly those related to climate change.
