Storm Darragh Causes Widespread Disruption Across the UK

1 min read

Storm Darragh has wreaked havoc across the country with winds reaching speeds of up to 90mph, leading to power outages, uprooted trees, and cancellations of events and travel services.

On Friday, the Met Office issued a rare red weather warning for parts of Wales and southwest England, cautioning around three million people about imminent, potentially life-threatening conditions. While the red warning has now been lifted, yellow and amber alerts remain in effect as strong winds of 70-80mph persist, posing risks of structural damage, fallen trees, flying debris, and large waves.

As per the Leaders sources, the National Grid reports that tens of thousands remain without power, and numerous events and attractions, including Christmas markets and sporting fixtures, have been canceled. All Royal Parks have also been closed for safety reasons, with authorities urging millions to stay indoors.

The scale of the disruption serves as a stark reminder of the storm’s intensity, with communities across the UK facing challenges as they navigate the aftermath.
