Jay-Z, 55, is facing a civil lawsuit alleging the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl in September 2000, after the MTV Video Music Awards. The rapper has denied the claims, labeling them a “blackmail attempt” and expressing concern about the impact on his family.
As per the reports of Leaders sources, the lawsuit comes alongside renewed discussions about Jay-Z’s past, including revelations from Carmen Bryan, who had a five-year affair with the rapper while she was also dating his rival, Nas. Carmen, who became pregnant during her relationship with Jay-Z, later suffered a miscarriage, which she revealed only after the loss.
Carmen’s affair with Jay-Z began in the mid-1990s, overlapping with her engagement to Nas, the father of her daughter, Destiny. The relationship continued until Carmen ended it after being offended by Jay-Z rapping about their intimate relationship in his song Supa Ugly.
According to the sources of Leaders, Jay-Z, responding to the lawsuit, expressed heartbreak over how it may affect his three children with Beyoncé, particularly their eldest, Blue Ivy, 12. “My wife and I will have to sit our children down, one of whom is at the age where her friends will surely see the press and ask questions,” he said. He mourned “another loss of innocence” for his children, adding that they “should not have to endure” such accusations at their young age.
The lawsuit, which also names Sean “Diddy” Combs in related allegations, accuses Jay-Z of assault at an afterparty in 2000. Both artists have denied the claims. Jay-Z criticized the accusations as malicious and damaging, stating, “It is unfair to have to try to understand inexplicable degrees of malice meant to destroy families and human spirit.”
Jay-Z and Beyoncé, married since 2008, have long been regarded as an R&B power couple. They share three children: Blue Ivy and twins Rumi and Sir, 7.
