Early Life and Academic Pursuits

Born in Riyadh in 1959, Dr. Al Al-Sheikh embarked on his academic journey at King Saud University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Administrative Sciences in 1981. His pursuit of knowledge led him to the United States, where he obtained a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of San Francisco in 1985. Furthering his studies, he earned another Master’s degree in Planning and Development from Stanford University in 1987. His diverse academic background equipped him with a multifaceted understanding of economic and developmental issues, laying a solid foundation for his future roles in academia and governance.

Academic and Administrative Career

Dr. Al Al-Sheikh’s professional trajectory in academia began at King Saud University, where he held various positions. He served as the Chairman of the Department of Economics at the College of Administrative Sciences from 2006 to 2007. Subsequently, he was appointed as the Vice Dean for Development and Accreditation at the College of Business Administration from 2007 to 2008. His leadership acumen was further recognized when he became the Dean of the King Abdullah Institute for Research and Consulting Studies in 2008, a position he held until 2009. Dr. Al Al-Sheikh’s commitment to academic excellence was further demonstrated during his tenure as Vice Rector for Development and Quality at King Saud University from 2009 to 2011.

Transition to Government Service

In 2011, Dr. Al Al-Sheikh transitioned from academia to public service, taking on the role of Deputy Minister of Education for Boys’ Affairs. His tenure in this position was marked by efforts to enhance the quality of education and address the evolving needs of the student population. Minister of Education (2018–2022)

On December 27, 2018, Dr. Al Al-Sheikh was appointed as the Minister of Education of Saudi Arabia. Under his stewardship, the Ministry of Education embarked on several initiatives aimed at transforming the educational landscape of the Kingdom.

Minister of State and Member of the Council of Ministers (2022–Present)

On September 27, 2022, Dr. Al Al-Sheikh was appointed as the Minister of State and Member of the Council of Ministers. In this capacity, he continues to influence the development and implementation of policies that align with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 objectives.

Role in Vision 2030 Implementation

As a member of the Council of Ministers, Dr. Al Al-Sheikh contributes to the formulation and execution of policies that support the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. Dr. Al Al-Sheikh serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Commission for the Guardianship of Trust Funds for Minors and their Counterparts. He is also a member of several significant bodies, including the Council of Ministers, the Council of Economic and Development Affairs, the Board of Directors of the Royal Commission for Al-Ula, the Board of Directors of the National Development Fund, and the General Authority for Statistics. Throughout his career, Dr. Al Al-Sheikh has been an advocate for evidence-based policy-making.
