A thick layer of fog has engulfed Delhi and surrounding regions in northern India, causing widespread travel disruptions and delays.

On Friday morning, over 100 flights were delayed at Delhi’s airport, and dozens of trains were either rescheduled or running late, according to reports of Leaders team. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that foggy conditions are likely to persist over the coming days.

Dense fog, a common occurrence during this time of year, is compounded by an ongoing cold wave in the region. Photos and videos show cities shrouded in mist and haze, with visibility severely reduced.

As per the sources of Leaders team, the IMD reported zero visibility at nine airports, including Delhi’s, on Friday morning. In response, the Delhi airport issued an advisory warning passengers of significant delays. Flights that are not equipped with CAT III systems, which enable automatic landings in low visibility, are particularly affected.

Several airlines have urged passengers to check flight schedules before traveling. Meanwhile, the IMD has classified the fog as “dense” when visibility falls below 200 meters and “very dense” when it drops below 50 meters.

Adding to the chilly conditions, the weather department has predicted light to moderate rainfall in Delhi on January 6, which is expected to further lower temperatures.

Travelers are advised to stay updated on schedules and prepare for potential delays as the region navigates the challenges posed by the dense fog and cold wave.
