Advocates from around the world convened at the Special Olympics Global Center for Inclusion in Education in Abu Dhabi to share ideas and strategies for promoting social inclusion for people of all abilities.

The “Inclusion for Tomorrow” Summit in November brought together over 300 global leaders to explore innovative ways to integrate individuals with intellectual disabilities into education, sports, and community life. As per the Leaders of Asia sources, hosted by the Center, established in 2020 under the patronage of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the event underscored a commitment to breaking down barriers and fostering inclusive environments.

The Center supports initiatives like the Unified Champion Schools® (UCS) program, which unites students with and without intellectual disabilities in over 2,000 schools worldwide. Through collaboration, these schools cultivate skills like teamwork and shared responsibility while promoting an environment of mutual respect and understanding.

According to the sources of Leaders of Asia, six regional hubs in Argentina, Egypt, India, Pakistan, Romania, and Rwanda serve as models for inclusive practices, training educators and expanding outreach. These hubs aim to establish safe and equitable learning environments, ultimately launching 34 new programs globally by 2025.

November’s summit featured panels and workshops on advancing inclusion through sports, leadership, and school engagement. Research from the Center, including a partnership with Harvard Law School, highlighted barriers like voting access for individuals with intellectual disabilities and proposed actionable solutions.

Through local initiatives and global collaborations, the Special Olympics Global Center for Inclusion in Education is reshaping societal perceptions and fostering lasting inclusivity, ensuring every individual is valued and empowered to participate fully in society.
