A shortlist of six exceptional athletes has been unveiled for the prestigious 2024 Sports Personality of the Year award. As per the reports of Leaders sources, the nominees include footballer Jude Bellingham, runner Keely Hodgkinson, darts prodigy Luke Littler, cricketer Joe Root, Para-cyclist Sarah Storey, and triathlete Alex Yee.

This year’s nominees have delivered awe-inspiring performances across various sports:

  • Jude Bellingham: In his debut season at Real Madrid, the midfielder was instrumental in securing La Liga and Champions League titles, scoring 23 goals across competitions. He also played a crucial role in England’s Euro 2024 campaign, earning accolades such as La Liga Player of the Season and a Ballon d’Or third-place finish.
  • Keely Hodgkinson: The runner claimed Olympic gold in the 800m at the Paris Olympics, ending a streak of near-misses at global events. Her victory marked the first Team GB Olympic track title since 2016. She also defended her European 800m title earlier in the year.
  • Luke Littler: At just 16, Littler made history by reaching the PDC World Championship final shortly after completing his GCSEs. His breakout year included 10 tournament victories and record earnings, making him one of darts’ brightest stars.
  • Joe Root: The England cricket star became the country’s leading Test run-scorer, surpassing Sir Alastair Cook. Root achieved several milestones this year, including his career-best Test score of 262 and becoming the first Englishman to surpass 20,000 international runs.
  • Sarah Storey: Britain’s most decorated Paralympian continued her dominance with two gold medals at the Paris Games, bringing her Paralympic gold tally to 19. Her achievements at the Road and Para-cycling World Championships added to her already unparalleled legacy.
  • Alex Yee: The triathlete claimed both Olympic and World titles in 2024. His thrilling finish in Paris secured his first individual Olympic gold, while his victories in the World Triathlon Series earned him a long-awaited world championship.

Event Details

According to the sources of Leaders, the winner will be chosen through public voting during the live broadcast on Tuesday, December 17. Alongside the main award, additional honors such as Team and Coach of the Year, Unsung Hero, and Lifetime Achievement will also be announced.
